Optimizing The Quantity and Quality of GLP-1 Weight Loss: Evidence from a 12-Week Comparative Study

GLP‑1 medications have changed what’s possible for weight loss, but they also raise a critical question: what are people losing—fat, lean mass, or both? Omada’s Insights Lab conducted a 12‑week comparative study of adults on GLP‑1s who did and did not receive Omada’s specialized GLP‑1 Care Track, which is designed to protect muscle mass and improve overall body composition, not just lower the number on the scale.

The results show that pairing members on GLP‑1s with Omada’s GLP‑1 Care Track was associated with significantly greater reductions in weight and body fat, while preserving comparable muscle mass—improving both the quantity and quality of weight loss.

Key findings

On average, compared to controls, at 12 weeks:

  1. Omada members lost 1.8X more total weight (6.0% vs. 3.3% of starting weight)
  2. Omada members lost 2.1X more body fat while preserving muscle mass
  3. Omada members reported greater improvements in mental health, physical functioning, and confidence in their ability to lose weight
