Beyond Stigma and Scripts: What the System Gets Wrong About Obesity Care
In one of the largest surveys of its kind, Omada polled more than 3,000 people who have used GLP‑1s for weight loss, offering a timely view of how the GLP‑1 experience is evolving and where the system continues to fall short.
Summary of survey findings:
- The obesity care experience is improving, but shame, stigma and affordability remain significant barriers to GLP-1 treatment.
- The majority of patients expressed the desire for lifestyle support paired with their prescription, and more time to discuss weight loss with their doctor.
- Patients are advocating for GLP-1 treatment, initiating conversations with their provider; and more than 40% say their provider required diet and exercise changes prior to prescription.
- Primary care providers remain the main prescribers of GLP-1s for weight loss, but alternate prescribing pathways are growing in popularity.
For benefits leaders, these findings identify pervasive gaps in obesity care, highlight what patients want out of the care experience, and surface opportunities for closing those care gaps, including between-visit care models and flexible prescribing solutions.
